Hansel and Gretel: Revenge is Nice

We learned a couple of things while we were trapped in that house. One, never walk in to a house made of candy. And two, if you’re gonna kill a witch, set her ass on fire.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. This came out in 2013, and is about KILLING ALL THE THINGS.

Some people will say that not all witches are evil, that their powers could be used for good. I say burn them all! – Hansel

With lots of fire. And headbutting. And shooting. And sarcasm.

Things this movie isn’t: for children.

I have a thing for fairy tale retellings, and turning Hansel and Gretel into some grown-up witch hunters was a great idea. They’ve gone all revengey, and have a lot of fun doing it.

Revenge doesn’t change the past. It won’t bring our parents back. But it sure as hell feels good. – Hansel

This is a fun kill-some-stuff movie meant to be watched with friends, while appreciating Jeremy Renner in all his kill-some-stuff glory.

I’m on a fairy tale retellings kick right now, and this one never comes up on the lists (I figure because it’s not exactly a romantic tale?). What are your favorite fairy tale retellings? Movies, books–any format goes!

That movie was fantabulous! I loved the cool take on the witches. And the fun killing! Jack and the Beanstalk was fun too. In more of the make-you-sigh-in happiness realm I love the movie Ever After and, of course, Tangled. I’m reading Cinder now (just started it) and so far I like it. 🙂 Fairy tales are fun to twist and retell.

I’m reading a bunch of fairy tales right now. I need to give Cinder a try still, it seems like everyone loves it.

Ever After definitely makes my heart sigh in happiness, that’s the perfect description.

Did you ever watch The 10th Kingdom? It was a miniseries. Fantastic quirky fun.
