All Hallow’s Read & Happy Halloween!

Halloween

Happy Halloween Boys & Ghouls!

Halloween is believed to be the one night a year where the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead are blurred, allowing spirits to roam free! Some believe that on Halloween the ghosts of the dead return to earth. How will you be celebrating your night? Whether you’re trick-or-treating, watching horror flicks, or telling tales in graveyards, we wish you a happy and safe evening!

How Are We Celebrating Halloween?

We’re celebrating with treats, tricks, and Neil Gaiman’s All Hallow’s Read!

What is All Hallow’s Read?

All Hallow’s Read is a Halloween tradition that promotes scary book giving! On Halloween night or during the week of Halloween you give someone a scary book. According to the website, All Hallow’s Read was dreamed up October 23rd, 2010 by the fabulous Neil Gaiman. On flight home he got to thinking about the fact that there really aren’t many book giving holidays out there. So he decided to make one. You can find the original post here.  If you haven’t read Neil’s books, by the way, do it! He’s one of my favorite authors.

Introverted Wife has created some fantastic posters for the event every year since creation. Check out these free posters that you can hang out, put out, or include with your All Hallow’s Read post.

I’m all for giving books on holidays! And this one is too good to ignore! I grew up reading and watching horror. The thought of sharing books, the writings of R.L.Stine or Christopher Pike with someone else is so exciting!

You can check out the All Hallow’s Read website for more information. You can check out the FAQ page for cleverly phrased information as well.

If you’re stumped for book ideas, Neil Gaiman suggests age appropriate favorites by authors such as Ray Bradbury, R.L. Stine, and Clive Barker.

If you want to follow it on Twitter or see who is participating this year, don’t forget to look up the hashtag #AllHallowsRead.

About Sweet Unrest

Lucy Aimes has always been practical. But try as she might, she can’t come up with a logical explanation for the recurring dreams that have always haunted her. Dark dreams. Dreams of a long-ago place filled with people she shouldn’t know…but does.

When her family moves to a New Orleans plantation, Lucy’s dreams become more intense, and her search for answers draws her reluctantly into the old city’s world of Voodoo and mysticism. There, Lucy finds Alex, a mysterious boy who behaves as if they’ve known each other forever. Lucy knows Alex is hiding something, and her rational side doesn’t want to be drawn to him. But she is.

As she tries to uncover Alex’s secrets, a killer strikes close to home, and Lucy finds herself ensnared in a century-old vendetta. With the lives of everyone she loves in danger, Lucy will have to unravel the mystery of her dreams before it all comes to a deadly finish.

Followed Lisa Maxwell on Twitter. My handle is: ZaraAlexis. And tonight, I’ll be taking the kiddies out Tick or Treating! My son will be dressed as a ninja, minus the turtle, and my daughter is a little lamb. After a night of Trick or Treating, I am going to go into a chocolate coma. That is the plan!

@kathleenpalm followed! And tonight I was going to take boy to dentist, but hubs is taking that duty so I can accompany girl and her friend trick-or-treating! I love being out in the cold, the sounds of trick-or-treat echoing down the street, leaves skittering along the road… and possibly freezing my butt of in the rain/snow. Oh well! Nothing like Halloween. I’ll be on the look out for anything evil lurking in the shadows. 🙂
