Reboot of the Horror Movie

Love horror?

If you search the Internet, you’ll find just how many horror films will be releasing over the next two years. Today, the focus is on horror reboots. While there are many being talked about, only a handful have made progress in writing, casting, and filming.

I have seen every one of the originals. The Crow was dark and haunting. Frankenstein was amazing in black and white. Poltergeist scarred me for life. Carrie is the book that almost wasn’t. The story behind Stephen King’s path to success is as amazing as the movie version is. Gremlins–a stuffed Gizmo was THE TOY to have. Ghostbusters still has a huge cult following. In fact, at 2014 New York Comic Con, there were a group of guys dressed exactly like the three main characters. They brought cheers from the crowd. It. My favorite Stephen King novel and the scariest thing I’ve ever seen!

How about you? Have you seen the original movies? Will you see the remake/reboots? Do you believe in the curse overshadowing a few of these movies? Let me know in the comments:)

The Crow

The original movie was a disaster from day 1 of filming. Numerous accidents happened on set, the final one ended the life of Brandon Lee.

Luke Evans is rumored to be the lead character in what is not being called a remake. In fact, the purpose of this movie will be to bring the entire book to life. The original movie, made over 20 years ago, only used about 40% of the novel.

Frankenstein

The only thing known so far, is that Guillermo del Toro is set to be a part of this project. With del Toro involved, I can guess that when this film releases it’ll be fantastic!

Poltergeist

This is one movie that has effected many of us here at The Midnight Society. I’m hoping that there is no curse the second time around.

Carrie

2013, was the year of this remake. Honestly, I think the original movie was perfect. I mean, we’re talking freaky Sissy Spacek!

Gremlins

This project is currently on hold.

Ghostbusters

Maybe not truly the graphic–killing kind of horror–Ghostbusters is filled with the lighter side of the genre.

The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was an iconic figure when I was a kid. Names like: Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Raymond Stantz, and Dr. Egon Spengler WERE THE GHOSTBUSTERS. Add Dana Barrett and Louis Tully and there’s a magical cast! Now, with no plot line posted on the internet yet, I wonder how three female leads will change the dynamic of Ghostbusters. So far, all we know is that Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones will star in the 2016 movie.

It

Mr. Pennywise was just one reason I was afraid of clowns for 20 years. Originally this was a made for TV series, starring Tim Curry. This one I’m totally looking forward to. As my favorite Stephen King stories, I think they can only make it MORE scary this time around.

I will definitely see The Crow, Frankenstein (If Del Toro is doing it, HELLOOOO!) I love Ghostbusters, so that’s a no brainer, I hope they can bring something special to it, because the original is fabulous. Gremlins would be fun…
OMG!!!! SOMEONE IS DOING IT? *DIES OF JOY* That book! <3
And Poltergeist… I have mixed feeling about. I saw the trailer and it looks like it includes the same elements as the original. Almost like… here's this old movie, but we can do it with cooler effects and make it scarier. I will see it, because… but I hope it b rings something new not just the effects.

I’m with Kathy. I am looking forward to The Crow, all of the movies were good to me. And any Frankenstein. I wish someone would do one similar to the one Alec Newman was in but better. Del Toro probably could do that. I don’t know about Ghostbusters! I still love the original and I watch it a lot. I too have mixed feelings about Poltergeist. What I think they should remake are all the old Mummy films, the old black and whites and upped the romance!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make them very serious, Gothic, 1920s, and dark!!!!!

But did you see the clown in this one? Waaaaayyyy creepier! I think that’s the biggest draw to the reboots–the fabulous effects that weren’t around when the originals were made.

My favorite Stephen King is Salem’s Lot, followed by The Stand. Aren’t they remaking The Stand??? Anyone know.

I second the motion for every King book to be a movie. *slams gavel* Motion passed!
