Writing Bloody- Writer’s Block

Writing Bloody 3

Hey everyone!

Sorry I’ve been MIA from the blog for a few weeks, but my wonky brain didn’t allow me to concentrate on ANYTHING! I’m not sure if what I’ve been dealing with has technically been writer’s block, rather I think of what I’ve been going through as “stress brain”. Outside forces, along with pressure I put on myself, started shutting my thoughts down.

I had a lot of sleepless nights, which is extremely unusual for me. If you know me at all, I can drink a large coffee and fall asleep ten minutes later. I never have difficulty finding that REM sleep. I felt like I was in the movie Groundhog Day. Every feeling, every idea that came to me was on a loop. The problem was, the only thing was that the second I’d try to put words on paper, I failed. Those ideas were left to float away into limbo. I couldn’t even write a blog post, it was that bad. I just couldn’t do it.

As writers, we all differ in how we make our way out of the fog. Me? I took a purposeful break from writing. That meant no writing blog posts, no adding to my WIP word count–NADA. In fact, I sucked up my pride and told the Midnight Society gang that I needed to bow out until the new year.

Writing this post is the first step in trying to make my way back to what I love–writing and talking about writing. I’m taking it slowly, but I’ve learned that time doesn’t matter. What matters is that I’m in touch with my characters and the story I’m writing. And whether I finish this book tomorrow or six months from now is up to me. No pressure.

Anyone else out there need to take a break from writing or hitting the proverbial wall? Tell us about it in the comments below. Don’t forget that we all need to stick together and support one another!!

xoxo,

A

Great post! Perfect timing, as I sorta feel this, too. It’s not quite barring me from writing, as much as it just makes me feel so monotonous. I’ve not been out of the house for days because I have to look after my grandma qho can’t see well and needs meds. I think I need to shake things up a little and to stop feeling guilty that I haven’t finished my WIP.

I have been there! We need to acknowledge when it all gets to be too much and let ourselves take a break without the guilt that usually accompanies the time off. And I am always available to watch a movie and have general silliness. <3 Glad to have you back! Keep doing your thing and take care of you.
