Uma Thurman, The Munsters – A Lot of Death In One Happy Little Song

So there I am, typing away on my manuscript like a good little writer, when a Spotify ad plays. Normally I ignore these things, I swear, but what do I hear coming out of this ad? THE MUNSTERS THEME SONG. You gotta stop and whistle, you just have to.

I look to see what’s happening, and it turns out that Fall Out Boy recently came out with this very popular song you may have heard already called Uma Thurman. This is what the bassist/lyricist Pete Wentz had to say on the wikipedia page for this song…

“This was a fun song to write. originally, when we came up with the idea, and there was this sample in it, which is a sample from The Munsters TV show, people kept saying “oh cool, like Quentin Tarantino, cool” when we played it. We decided why don’t we kind of create this world around that? To me, Uma Thurman and Winona Ryder, they were these women in pop culture who were quirky, but that made me only crush on them harder. and rather than going with the traditional Uma Thurman role, we thought a lot about Kill Bill and who her character was in that, and this kind of resilience and this violence, but there’s something that’s authentic about it (like a woman taking revenge or being empowered). so that’s what the chorus of the song’s about, and the verses are what you would do to try and capture this woman’s affection.”— bassist/lyricistPete Wentz.[10]

I’m a little sad that the people they played this song to are not recognizing The Munsters theme song, but oh well, it’s still pretty fun that it’s out there. I’ve always loved The Munsters theme. Herman Munster was the first incarnation of Frankenstein’s monster I ever came across, so he’s largely responsible for my little obsession.

If you’re like me and this song leaves you craving sometime with one of the best families out there, here’s the original theme.

I hope you’re whistling the rest of the day!

I totally caught it and am so delighted by this new Fall Out Boy album because it brings back so much nostalgic moments for me. Thanks for sharing! Great little spotlight on a band that gets a lot of grief for being mainstream and yet, the haters forget these boys now men always put a lot of value into their influences and always gave credit where it was due.
