Decorating for Halloween

A few weeks ago I posted a few Pinterest boards dedicated to decorating for our favorite holiday. Today, I thought I'd share some of my own decorations. I am having a blast slowly adding skeletons and fun trinkets to the nooks and crannies of my house.   This is the first thing you see when you walk in my front door. During the summer, sea shells and blue candles adorn the small table. I found the small skulls at Target--one of my go to places.   I love the look of book spines, so of course I stacked two copies of Dracula and topped them off with a[...]

IT- My Review

I FINALLY SAW THE MOVIE I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR! Whew. *wipes brow from all of the excitement* I know that there are some mixed reviews out there on Facebook and Twitter, but you won't get that here. I LOVED IT! Yes, there are parts that could have been closer to the book. Yes, Beverly is treated like a damsel in distress. Yes, the character development could have been stronger. But...a book that is over 1,100 pages long is quite difficult to reproduce--for goodness sakes, the 1990 TV miniseries couldn't even do it in over 3 hours of time! So instead of focusi[...]

Halloween is almost here!

I know. Halloween isn't for another 7 weeks, but I can't help it. I'm ready to plan my decorations, costumes, and even the nibbles. If you're anything like me, you hit Pinterest for some inspiration. Where else can one find great ideas? Now if only to narrow it down...   https://www.pinterest.com/kissedbyink/halloween-party-decorations/   https://www.pinterest.com/kissedbyink/halloween-nibbles/ https://www.pinterest.com/kissedbyink/halloween-lawn-decorations/

The Official IT Trailer

I've posted here many times about my admiration for Stephen King. My love of reading began in high school when I picked up his horror novel, IT. So it shouldn't be a surprise how excited I am for the new movie to be released. Well, imagine my surprise when I hopped onto Facebook and saw A NEW TRAILER was released two weeks ago!! If this trailer didn't scare you...I'm not sure what will. Coming to theaters: September 8, 2017 XOXO A[...]

Come Sprint with Us!

This morning, Brian and I took to Twitter and sprinted. It was awesome. We were both up early and it was nice to have someone out there who was writing at the same time. Together, we decided that what would make it even better would be YOU! Anytime one of us is writing, we will post to the hashtag #MidnightSocietyWritersClub. And then all you need to do is join us in our writing time. Post to the hashtag and let us know who you are and how long you want to write for. It's all in the name of building community and encouraging stories to flourish. Even though we'[...]

July 4th Book Recommendation

If you aren't a fan of fireworks, or you need to stay home with the pups so that they don't go insane with the noise, here's the perfect book for you to read... WELCOME TO THE DEAD HOUSE by R.L. Stine, is the first book published in the Goosebumps series. It was originally released in July 1992. Since then, it has been re-released 2 more times with new covers. There is also a TV episode you can watch!  [...]

A Quick Review of GET OUT

I didn't get the chance to see Jordan Peele's movie, GET OUT, in the theater. There were a few other movies the BF and I were interested in, so we saved this one to either rent or buy from home. This week we had some time and got to finally see it. As a horror fan, I found this movie to be scary in the fact that racism is still so prevalent today. I don't want to go into much detail about the movie, because it will totally give away the plot, but just be prepared to think about horror in a different way. And BTW--there is a little political undertone to this piec[...]

The Day I Saw Stephen King

I SAW STEPHEN-FREAKING-KING IN PERSON! If you've ever read any of my posts, you'll know how truly amazing this is for me. The man wrote the book that changed my life. Made me a reader. So, to actually see him with my own eyes...It was just so cool. I wish he would have spoken longer, but nevertheless, I'm glad that I was able to have the opportunity. To hear Stephen and his son talk about how the idea sprouted for their collaboration is inspirational. Hopefully, I'll be able to see Stephen and Owen at a tour stop when they're on the east coast promoting SLEEPING[...]

Urban Legend: The Vanishing Hitchhiker

The legend of the vanishing hitchhiker varies; however, a few parts remain the same no matter who tells it--a hitchhiker is trying to catch a ride while on a dark back road. Once picked up, he/she disappears without explanation. Many TV shows have created their own versions of this legend, but I have found 2 favorites: Constantine and Supernatural. Constantine- Season 1, Episode 5: Dance Vaudou **I love this episode. There are two urban legends in one wonderful plot twist. And if you still haven't watched Constantine...I don't know what you're waiting for! A te[...]

The Urban Legend of Bloody Mary

When I was a teen, there were two things you did at a sleep over. Chant "light as a feather, thick as a board" while trying to pick your friend up using only your index fingers. Say Bloody Mary into the bathroom mirror. 3 times. One, was lighthearted and fun. The whole Bloody Mary thing though...terrifying. There are so many different versions of this out there. Who Mary was before this game even came into being. I remember telling the story of a girl named Mary, who was so beautiful that she couldn't tear her eyes from the mirror. One day, she's in a terrib[...]
