#Horror TV: Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block

If you haven't heard of Channel Zero on SYFY channel, you should go check it out. The first season, Candle Cove, was creepy fun as a childhood terror refused to be forgotten, as a lost brother was found. The second season, No-End House, dove into the pain of the past, of how...just maybe...we'd rather live without it. The third season, Channel Zero: Butcher's Block has just finished, the final episode played last night. I haven't watched it yet...but I will, then return to share my thoughts. SyFy channel describes their show as... BUTCHER’S BLOCK, the third[...]

Ash vs. Evil Dead Revisited

Brian and I are HUGE Evil Dead fans. We actually met face-to-face three years ago at Comic Con in NYC--the very same one where there was an Ash vs. Evil Dead panel and a tour through Ash's trailer. How cool is this?! Fast forward to a few weeks ago, when one of my favorite horror shows comes back on STARZ. Now in its third season, Ash is back and so are the marvelous special effects. This show has THE BEST effects, from heads being cut off to fingers being severed by a saw. If you like slapstick slaughter, this show is definitely for you![...]

Let’s Watch a #Horror Movie Oscar Edition: Get Out

Because it's Oscar month (this Sunday!) and because a horror movie has been nominated...let's watch Get Out. This fabulous 2017 horror movie directed and written by Jordan Peele, not only made us cringe and shudder, but made us think about how we look at, how we think about, and how we treat people of color. Chris, a black man, journeys to meet his girlfriend's parents, his white girlfriend's parents. The visit should be fine, but from the very beginning the trip tumbles into a mess of weird and creepy. Get Out addresses the true horror of racism, not only a d[...]

Let’s Watch a #Horror Movie: Silent Hill

February, time for hearts and flowers and chocolates and giant cuddly teddy bears...and strange, scary other dimensions with monsters and a town haunted by the past. I love watching horror movies with friends, so join me for this month's live-tweet of Silent Hill. As I searched through my movies, this one called to me. It's been too long since I've enjoyed the descent into the madness of a town haunted by secrets. We all need creepy nurses, Pyramid Head, and the rage of a little girl. Based on the horror video game, Silent Hill was released in 2006 and directe[...]

Let’s Talk #Horror Movies: Insidious: The Last Key

Hello, horror movie lovers!  I am a big fan of the Insidious movie series, so when the newest  chapter released earlier this month, I WENT! So let’s talk scary. INSIDIOUS: The Last Key The fourth in the series, but the second in the story's timeline, this horror film directed by Adam Robitel, written by Leigh Whannell, and produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, and James Wan follows my favorite character Elise Rainier played by Lin Shaye as she faces the horrors of her past. In Insidious: Chapter 3, Elise returns to using her gifts to help others and makes pea[...]

Let’s Watch a #Horror Movie: Annabelle: Creation

Let’s watch a horror movie! Annabelle: Creation! Doesn’t that sound like fun? Of course it does. Watching scary movies with friends is the best! And what could be better than demons and dolls? Nothing. This 2017 horror movie was directed by David F Sandburg and written by Gary Dauberman and is the prequel to the 2014 movie Annabelle and ties in nicely to that movie. We all remember that creepy possessed doll fondly and this movie shares the doll’s origin. Because why wouldn’t you want to know? Samuel and Esther Mullins, played by Anthony LaPaglia and[...]

The Thirteen Nights of #Frightmas: A Poem

The Thirteen Nights of Frightmas   On the first night of Frightmas the Society gave to me… A severed head in a tree.   On the second night of Frightmas the Society gave to me… Two bloody knives And a severed head in a tree.   On the third night of Frightmas the Society gave to me… Three creepy clowns, Two bloody knives, And a severed head in a tree.   On the fourth night of Frightmas the Society gave to me… Four possessed dolls, Three creepy clowns, Two bloody knives, And a severed head in a tree.   On t[...]

Spooky Empire Creators Track

Wednesday Addams, the Headless Horseman, and Velma from Scooby Doo walked into a horror convention. They walked with me from the parking garage to Spooky Empire, along with gender-swapped Beetlejuice and more than one Pennywise. Sam from Trick r Treat greeted me when I walked in. I love Sam, and Halloween was only a few days away, but I had a writing panel to catch. Spooky Empire started in 2003, and it’s grown to be one of the largest horror conventions in the nation. The self-proclaimed ‘dark side of Comic Con’ is held in Orlando, Florida nowadays[...]

All That You Touch, You Change

You wake up alone, locked in an empty room. You lift up the phone from its cradle, and a scratchy voice intones, “All that you touch, you change.” The message repeats, no matter how many times you try to use the phone. It’s flat. Insistent. Its cadence is off, like something trying to sound human. So begins Cube Escape: Seasons, the first in a series of surreal horror games set around, and beneath, Rusty Lake. On the surface, the Cube Escape games are lovely, pastel escape rooms. Haunting music plays as you explore. You find objects while exploring each[...]

Horror Movies…My Obsession to Watch Them All

I have a slight obsession with horror movies. Whenever I end up at a store, it is impossible for me to pass the movie section. Those big bins filled with cheap movies? Yeah...I lose hours of my life. Always on the look out for horror movies I haven't seen, for scary tales I haven't heard of, it has become a problem. The horror movie drawer is full...and yet, I buy. October is the perfect time for this. Horror movies get their own Halloween-y section! And so many of them are $5. SyFy channel is on its 31 Days of Halloween...playing creepy movies all the time, s[...]
