Music To Write Scary Stories To: Dance With The Dead

I’ve written about music a few times here on the blog, and as I’ve said before, the only thing I love more than horror is music. I try to bring those two loves together as much as I can, which is why many of my stories are littered with musical references. I also love to listen to music while I’m writing, preferably instrumental music. That usually means a lot of video game and horror movie scores. But there are some bands and artists that make for perfect writing music, and one of them is Dance With The Dead.

Dance With The Dead is a music duo out of Orange County, CA. Justin Pointer and Tony Kim craft ’80s inspired horror tunes that combine metal and synths to make an audio peanut butter and jelly sandwich of John Carpenter awesomeness.

Dance With The Dead has put out several albums, and each one feels like it could the soundtrack to a kick-ass 80s horror movie. They’ve been around for several years, but I only found out about them recently through one of our Thrash It Out podcast listeners. You can check out all of their albums and buy them over on their Bandcamp page.

As a metalhead, an ’80s horror junkie and a disciple of John Carpenter, I cannot recommend this band highly enough.
