The White Fox by Sara Faring is Almost Here!

The White Fox is almost here and it's full of lush secrets and surprises. I'm here today to share a sneak preview with you! “These woods can be treacherous. You never know which trees will curl their roots around your ankles, which foxes will prance right down a foxhole with you in tow.”  After their world-famous actor mother disappeared under mysterious circumstances, Manon and Thaïs left their remote Mediterranean island home—sent away by their pharma-tech tycoon father. Opposites in every way, the sisters drifted apart in their grief. Yet[...]

Get Even is Streaming on Netflix!

Most of you know that I absolutely adore Gretchen McNeil, not only as a badass author but as a professional and creative that I admire immensely. One of my favorite novel series of hers is Get Even. Guess what? It came to Netflix! TODAY! Here's a little bit more about Get Even. The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars in Gretchen McNeil’s witty and suspenseful novel about four disparate girls who join forces to take revenge on high school bullies and create dangerous enemies for themselves in the process. Bree, Olivia, Kitty, and Margot have no[...]

Witchy Goodness: Currently Reading The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw

I love me some witches, and naturally they came up over the holiday break when I made a Christmas gift list for the witch in your life or when I talked about my failures of 2019. At a book conference in 2018, I received an ARC of it. The cover's deep blue with iridescent writing, the magical description—I was bewitched from the beginning. I was over the moon excited and I devoured it fast. It was my favorite book of 2018. It's still one of my favorites. Which is why I'm reading it again. Have you heard of it? The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw A New York T[...]

The Grace Year by Kim Liggett

I haven't love a book like this in such a very long time, but leave it to Kim Liggett to haunt me with her story telling. Elizabeth Banks knew what a game changer this book is, too--enough to have signed on to produce and direct The Grace Year for Universal. While this book isn't technically horror, this story is full of tension and parts were absolutely terrifying. If you love dystopian stories along the lines of The Handmaid's Tale...make sure to pick this book up when it releases on October 8, 2019! XOXO, A No one speaks of the grace year. It’s forbi[...]

Thoroughbreds Is Not Heathers – It’s More

Thoroughbreds is not Heathers. It seems like every movie with teen girls and dark humor invokes Heathers. Heathers came out in 1988, and it was shocking and perfect for the time. It captured, as nothing before it had, the cynicism of students, the toothless administrators, and the deep emotional cruelty of teen girls. Veronica’s crush on the dangerous new boy in town resonated with young women, and they were empowered by her rejection of him when he went too far. Thoroughbreds is not Heathers. It’s something more. It’s quiet. It’s slow moving[...]

Where to Query Your YA Horror Novel (Part 1)

I have a campy YA horror novel that is struggling to find a home. The market isn't as strong for YA horror as it is for say, contemporary romance. I know what you're thinking--but what about authors like R.L. Stine or Stephen King? Darling, they are outliers. Sometimes when I go to ALA or other conventions and ask publishing houses about current YA horror that I should have on my radar, they're not as quick to have recommendations for me as they are for other genres.  Not always, of course. Sometimes they grace me with a zillion recommendations and it's love[...]
