Dogs of Horror

Hello, darlings,   Life has been so shitty lately, so I've kind of dropped off the face of the earth. We had to put our beloved dog, Indi, down on New Years Eve. So, without further adieu, I give you the Dogs of Horror. RIP Indi. I love you.   Cujo (1983)   Okay, so not only is this the kickoff to my favourite Friends ship (JoChel), but it stars one scary ass dog!   I never watched the movie Beethoven the same The Lost Boys (1985) Nanook, the husky, is one of the cutest horror dogs around. He makes a kill shot by knocking a vamp into[...]

Let’s Talk #Horror Movies: Insidious: The Last Key

Hello, horror movie lovers!  I am a big fan of the Insidious movie series, so when the newest  chapter released earlier this month, I WENT! So let’s talk scary. INSIDIOUS: The Last Key The fourth in the series, but the second in the story's timeline, this horror film directed by Adam Robitel, written by Leigh Whannell, and produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, and James Wan follows my favorite character Elise Rainier played by Lin Shaye as she faces the horrors of her past. In Insidious: Chapter 3, Elise returns to using her gifts to help others and makes pea[...]

Horror Movies…My Obsession to Watch Them All

I have a slight obsession with horror movies. Whenever I end up at a store, it is impossible for me to pass the movie section. Those big bins filled with cheap movies? Yeah...I lose hours of my life. Always on the look out for horror movies I haven't seen, for scary tales I haven't heard of, it has become a problem. The horror movie drawer is full...and yet, I buy. October is the perfect time for this. Horror movies get their own Halloween-y section! And so many of them are $5. SyFy channel is on its 31 Days of Halloween...playing creepy movies all the time, s[...]

Let’s Talk #Horror Movies… IT

We, here at The Midnight Society, are big Stephen King fans. When we heard IT was being made into a movie...we freaked out a little. Okay, a lot. The book is a monster, published in 1986 it stands at 1138 pages. The story flips between the late 1950s and the mid 1980s...27 years in-between. A great look at life as a kid versus life as an adult, how our fears change, but never leave us. I've read the book twice. Scared the crud out of me, infected my brain with ideas that creatures in the drains were going to kill me. Then the mini-series aired in the fall of[...]

The Summer of Screams Is Ending, But the Frightening Fall Has Just Begun!

We here at the Midnight Society had a blast celebrating the Summer of Screams. Not only was there an amazing writing and art showcase hosted by our amazing founder Jolene Haley (which you can check out here), but my fellow Midnighter Kathy Palm and I live-tweeted three flicks from my favorite franchise ever, Friday the 13th! In fact, we had so much fun that we can't stop just because summer is over. So, welcome to the Frightening Fall. We'll be live-tweeting more Friday the 13ths, as well as some of our favorite '80s horror flicks, throughout the next few mont[...]

Let’s Talk Horror Movies…Annabelle: Creation

So, I took myself to see a movie this week... Annabelle: Creation. Yes, I took myself. Yes, I truly enjoy seeing scary movies alone. Though there were two other people in the theater, *sigh* they didn't scream or bother me, so I let them live. Let's be honest...Annabelle, The Conjuring movies...I'll happily go see ANY AND ALL of them. Possessions. Demons. Ghosts. Creepiness. These are a few of my favorite things. So, we all know Annabelle, that is based on a real doll tucked safely away behind glass guarded by priests and the Warrens. We saw Annabelle...one[...]

Let’s Watch a Horror Movie…Friday the 13th

This month will be a special horror movie live-tweet event! We will be heading to summer camp and watching THREE movies. All in the Friday the 13th franchise. Why? Well... Our fabulous fearless leader Jolene hosts a writer/artist showcase where she posts stories and art on her blog. Each year she has a different theme and likes these creations to be a little creepy. I have been honored to be a part of the last three themes: haunted house, harvest festival, and haunted hotel. This year will be my fourth. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to unite artists, to c[...]

Let’s Watch a Horror Movie: Get Out

Okay, my creepy-loving friends, time to announce the chosen movie for my monthly live-tweet. For June, let's watch a horror movie...GET OUT. The 2017 American horror film was written, co-produced and directed by Jordan Peele, his directorial debut. I have not seen this. AAAAHHHH! I tried to go to the theater, but the schedule was mean and said no. So I have no witty insights to share here, only the blurb from the back of the DVD case. "When Chris, a young African-American man, visits his white girlfriend's family estate, he becomes ensnared in the more sinis[...]

RESIDENT EVIL 7 Brings Me Back to FOOD OF THE GODS

As I've mentioned here previously, I've been playing through Resident Evil 7, and I'm constantly impressed by the nods to old horror stories and movies this game has. One of my recent sessions involved giant insects, and as someone who really hates bugs, it added a whole extra layer of terror for me. You can watch me freak out here: https://youtu.be/-Ju6y3NIpYk Anyway, those giant insects reminded me of a 1976 movie that scarred me for life--Food of the Gods. Loosely based on an H.G. Wells story, Food of the Gods was about a strange substance that is found bubb[...]

Haunting Ideas…The Bye Bye Man

Yesterday I took myself to see The Bye Bye Man. Don't think it... Don't say it... This horror /thriller movie, based on the chapter "The Bridge to Body Island" in Robert Damon Schneck's book The President's Vampire, was directed by Stacy Title and written by Jonathan Penner and opened on Friday, January 13th. Don't think it... Don't say it... I love movies. I love seeing them in the theater. I wish the theater sold dark chocolate M&Ms...but peanut had to do. I was the only one in the theater. I love when that happens. Don't think it... Don't say it[...]
