First, before I type another pretty little word, did you guys know that HARROWED is out?? It’s written by our very own Jolene Haley and Brian LeTendre. You can click the title and it’ll bring you right to the goodreads page! Where you go from there is up to you *cough*buyitnow*cough*.
Now, as you may know, it is the most wonderful time of the year. The trees are turning golden hues, everything is pumpkin flavoured, and Halloween is just around the corner. It’s also premiere season! All the best shows are back on TV with a mighty vengeance that will leave even the most outdoorsiest of men couch-bound until Christmas
One show that caught my attention quite a while ago was Ryan Murphy’s (Glee, AHS) new show, SCREAM QUEENS. It stars some of my favourite leading ladies like Emma Roberts (who is apparently a fave of Murphy’s as well), Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, and Keke Palmer. And a couple dudes that I’m sure you’ll recognize.
Despite the kick ass cast, I went in a little hesitant. I’ve never been the biggest fan of Horror Comedy. I went into DRAG ME TO HELL thinking it was a serious horror movie and I’ve been scarred ever since. With SQ, I was more than pleasantly surprised….I….I think I’m in love.
If you haven’t watched the show, I’m not going to try and give you a full recap. I won’t do it justice (and I suck at it). But here’s my attempt at a log line for ya’ll: After a sorority sister dies at a house party, someone is out for revenge twenty years later.
If you’re a horror buff (and you obviously are), you’ll appreciate the throwbacks right from the opening credit font. There’s also a torn shower curtain, the Queen of Scream herself Ms. Jamie Lee Curtis, campy gore, and plenty of screams.
The cast is hilarious. Roberts plays our head bitch, I mean sorority sister, Chanel. Her minions are Chanel 2,3,and 5. Chanel is the absolute worst. She’s so mean and horrid that you cannot wait until she’s on screen again.
And though she didn’t last long, I freaking loved Deaf Taylor Swift.
Jamie Lee Curtis is FANTASTIC. I mean, Ryan Murphy pretty much said the entire show was an homage to HALLOWEEN. The serial killer’s entire head is covered by a mask, FFS. It’s a glorious, witty show. But you’ll just have to watch it and find out for yourself.
The first two episodes started off the season with SO many questions. If you haven’t seen the show, LOOK AWAY!
1. Can we all just agree that the lawyer is obviously the one that discovered the baby? I freaking love that she is still stuck in the nineties. It makes me smile.
2. Was Grace’s momma one of the other sorority sisters from 1995 party?
3. How cute is Boon?? And how much do we love Dean Munch?!
4. Though it would be WAY too obvious, do you think Pete is the serial killer? Or at least involved in some way?
5. Now this is the most important question of all….who is the Red Devil??
I can’ wait for next week and the rest of the season. What did you think of the show?
