Happy Camp NaNoWriMo! Keep writing, writing, writing!

It’s April 2nd, which means that many of you participating in Camp NaNoWriMo have been working on your book or your project for two days already! Or erm, if you’re like me, you really haven’t started yet because of the weekend and um, yeah, I should probably get on that.

First off, CONGRATULATIONS on taking the next step to make your creative project a reality if you are participating and already signed up.

Secondly, if you haven’t checked out NaNoWriMo, you should! It’s a great way to start the project you’ve been wanting to work on and creating excellent writing habits. This can be poetry, short stories, a full length novel or something else.

I try to participate in NaNoWriMo and Camp NaNoWriMo every year. Sometimes I win (finish my book within the guidelines) and sometimes I don’t. But either way, I end the writing months with consistent writing habits and way more words than I started with. It’s free. It’s fun. Why not?

Here’s a little more…

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and occurs every November, where one tries to write a 50,000 word novel during the month. Camp NaNoWriMo however, is a campy, more relaxed version that takes place twice a year: April and July. Word count goals can be anywhere between 30 words or 1,000,000! Writers can tackle any project they’d like, including new novel drafts, revision, poetry, scripts, and short stories.

Here are a few reasons I think that everyone should participate at least once…

You can write anything you want. Think scary stories, spooky poetry, or something else equally mysterious. Or maybe even love and sunshine!
Part of the website (once you sign up for free) includes a scale that shows how many words you need to write a day to make your goals.
Writing consistantly makes for great habits, especially when the month is over.
You can end the month with a finished first draft of any project you want.
Camp NaNoWriMo has this really cool feature called Cabin Bunks, and it’s basically a private chat for you and bunk mates to talk writing, cheer each other on, and more. You can ask to be randomly assigned to them or make your own and have up to 19 people in one.
Did I mention, that if you stick to the plan YOU END THE MONTH WITH A FINISHED PROJECT!

Almost all members of the Midnight Society are participating in Camp NaNoWriMo. My cabin is called Midnight Mayhem and boy am I thankful for our members. They rule! Brian always does a great job hosting and asking questions of the day and writing with a group always helps motivate me to finish. For me, starting from the beginning is easy and fun. Finishing is the hard part!
