Ultraviolet – Free YA Horror Serial

Part 1 Hidden in the Red Hill Mountains is the quiet town of Hollows Grove. In that town, there is a field where a secret is buried deep beneath the ground. And in that field is where Mila was found abandoned with no memory of her past and haunted by visions of the future. Nine years later, Mila’s life is almost as normal as any other eighteen-year-old. That is until she starts foreseeing the murder of Nyjah Bradley, a guy she’s never met before, but whose face is branded into her mind. Constantly plagued by the vision, Mila decides to track Nyjah down a[...]

Who’s the Monster Here?

Frankenstein's monster's stitches were done so roughly in the original film so people would immediately look at him and know he was a monster. Those stitches have since become a symbol for the monster. You can paint your nails black and green, with stitches tieing the colors together, and people will get the reference. Look at your monster nails! But the theme we come back to when we talk about Frankenstein, is that the creature wasn't the monster. Victor, the doctor who created him, was. He created this person, for his own selfish reasons, with no thought to[...]

Frankenstein Crash Course

Hello there, Midnighters! Currently, I am working 5-7 hours a day on revisions on my Girl Band vs Zombies (hey, I named the band! Deadly Divas, here we come!) series. My heart still has room for Frankenlove, but my brain got sidetracked by zombies and forgot to write something wise and insightful. So hey, here's a wise and insightful (and funny) crash course on all that is the Frankenstein novel with John Green. Watch this, and you'll probably know more about Frankenstein than people who read the book 5+ years ago. If you enjoy it, don't miss Part 2. And wh[...]

Share the Frankenlove

And now, a commercial break. But a themed one. There are a TON of Frankenstein commercials out there, but this one is probably my favorite. It uses imagery from the original tale, and...and... it's funny. I believe it was filmed on the same lot as the original movie. Correct me if I'm wrong on this.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HS0XceWlGAs[...]

Frankenlove Interview with Author Mackenzi Lee

Today we have a real treat on The Midnight Society: an interview with Mackenzi Lee, the author of the upcoming Frankenstein reimagining, THIS MONSTROUS THING. I actually decided to start calling this post series "Frankenlove"after talking with her on twitter. She's fun, she's knowledgeable, and she loves Frankenstein! So here we go... Do you remember first falling in love with Frankenstein? What drew you to the story? You never forget your first time, do you? My first exposure to Frankenstein came in high school, when it was one of our optional summer reading bo[...]

A List of Frankenlove

Mackenzi Lee, author of the upcoming novel THIS MONSTROUS THING (who will be interviewed here soon!) inspired the new title for these Frankenstein themed posts: Frankenlove! I actually really love this dorky little banner I made, so you better love it, too. Today, we're going to share several fun and different bits of Frankenstein greatness. 1. Frankenstein's monster was on a postage stamp. Twice! In 1997 and 2002. 2. Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller were in a Frankenstein play in 2011. It was broadcast in cinemas around the world, but still no D[...]

You Can’t Do a Slasher Movie as a TV Series

OR CAN YOU? Alright kids, if you haven't heard, MTV is putting out Scream, yes as in the Scream movies, as a TV series. All of the promos for this show make me so happy, but this one's my favorite. The best thing about the Scream movies was that they have a sense of humor about them, largely put together by Randy. You remember Randy? source   I really hope the TV series has a Randy. Here are two more trailers, because they're actually funny which makes them worth watching. The series will premiere on June 30th. MURDER. MAYHEM. JOKES. Will you[...]

Steampunk Frankenstein

Steampunk would lend itself to the classic Frankenstein monster beautifully, but I actually haven't found that much in the way of steampunk Frankenstein monster's out there. (If you've found something, leave it in the comments!) I did find Rick Baker's costume. Rick Baker is a famous special effects artist, and he put together this interpretation to celebrate his M.A.C. Cosmetics makeup line. What do you think? Doesn't it beg for a Frankenstein steampunk retelling? Who's going to sign up to write it?  [...]

Frankenblogs: Quotes from the Original

A lot of people avoid the book, because a lot of people simply avoid books from the 1800s, and that's okay, but you're missing out on some great classic quotes here, and that just can't happen. Because I'm all about compromise, I'm posting some of the more famous, and some of my favorite, quotes from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. It pays to remember when reading these that, as mentioned in the trivia on my first Frankenstein post, the monster talks in the book, unlike in the early films. Quotes from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein!   “Life, although it[...]
