Midnight Society Movie Night: Halloween

I know it's February, but it's always a great time for some trick-or-treating with a bit of murder and mayhem. So this month for Midnight Society Movie Night, join me on Twitter for Halloween!     Halloween...a slasher film released October of 2018 written by David Gordon Green, Jeff Fradley, and Danny McBride, and directed by David Gordon Green brings us back to the story of Laurie Strode and what being a survivor means.   Remember all those Halloween movies? We all watched them. Well, forget every one except the first, because this movie[...]

Midnight Society Movie Night: Truth or Dare

It's time for the Midnight Society Movie Night announcement! Let's watch Truth or Dare. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've been watching a lot of very happy, very cute Christmas movies, so I think it's time for some screaming and fear. What's better than watching people try to escape gruesome deaths? Not a lot. Are you ready?   I didn't see this one in the theater. Why? Well, I was confused every time I saw the trailer, BECAUSE I JUST WATCHED A MOVIE CALLED TRUTH OR DARE I WAS CERTAIN. Complete the dare or die...tell the truth or die... Dire[...]

Into the Dark: Pooka Movie Review

While this fuzzy brown character suit may look cute, Pooka really isn't the kind of stuffy you want to give your child for Christmas. The fact that this toy chooses whether or not it repeats what you say in a good or evil voice is enough for me. I certainly wouldn't want to have this toy at home, let alone dress up as this character. Wilson, an unemployed actor, unwittingly takes the job to try and boost his career. Eventually, Pooka begins to mess with Wilson's mind and he begins to commit acts of violence. In the end, this Hulu original puts a new twist on the t[...]

Midnight Society Movie Night: Holiday Edition

The Midnight Society is BACK! So, that means Midnight Society movie night returns, where everyone is welcome to join me on Twitter to live-tweet the creepy and dark and weird. Why? Well, if you're like me, you have people in your life who just don't 'do' horror. I go to movies alone. I watch at night in the dark when everyone is in bed. BUT...it's fun to share the terror with friends, with people who like the shadows as much as I do. My goal is to have a scheduled live-tweet once a month and maybe a few surprise movie nights, just because. So welcome to... AN[...]

A Wonderful Time of Year for Christmas Horror Films

I love watching movies. I have special fondness for Christmas movies of all kinds. Lately, I've been hitting Netflix hard for cheesy holiday films. Now it's time to add in a few horror flicks into the rotation. If you do a search online for "Horror Christmas Movies," quite a few come up. Some are very slasheresque--what with a lot of blood and scantily clothed women.  These aren't really my cup of tea. I do like some substance to my horror and trust me, there are a ton of amazing choices. Although I've chosen just a few, I hope to discover more to share with you[...]

The Beautiful Horror of Pan’s Labyrinth

I am so excited that we are back! So excited that I had to tell you all about the latest movie I watched this weekend. First, I need you to understand that I am not one to choose a film with subtitles.  Sure, I enjoyed the original version of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest; subtitles and all. But for the most part I get lost in the reading and miss much of the film. On Sunday, when the BF suggested we watch Pan’s Labyrinth, I first grumbled and groaned before telling him to just put it on. He swore I’d like it. He knows me so well.  I was immed[...]

Suspiria

The year is 1977, and filmmaker Luciano Tovoli has created a masterpiece of horror cinematography. Don't believe me? Check this out...   It may be difficult to discern what this film is about, because the trailer leaves a lot to be imagined. This film is about, "An American newcomer to a prestigious German ballet academy comes to realize that the school is a front for something sinister amid a series of grisly murders."   The remake, coming to theaters November 2018, stars Dakota Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, Mia Goth, and star of the original film J[...]

Midnight Society Movie Night: Winchester

Horror movies are my favorite thing. Ever. Watching scary movies with friends is a luxury I lack, so each month I live-tweet a tale of terror to share my love of the dark and weird with everyone. This month for our Midnight Society Movie Night...let's watch Winchester! Join me, horror friends, for a night of ghosts! Directed by Michael and Peter Spierig and written by the Spierigs and Tom Vaughn, the story is inspired by  the legend of Sarah Winchester and her unique house. I saw this one in the theater and had a great time! You can read my thoughts about the[...]

Little Evil- The Perfect Little Horror Movie

Only on Netflix can you find a horror movie that includes a big dose of humor. Seriously, this is a MUST watch! I mean, how could you not get sucked in to an opening scene that includes the biggest horror trope ever...pouring rain and an evil little boy? Not your typical antichrist, Lucas does hate his step-father, but there's a problem...it won't be that easy. His step-father actually wars against himself between wanting to kill Lucas and hoping to teach him to be a good person. There are a lot of nods toward popular horror movies--along with a few[...]

Let’s Talk Horror Movies: A Quiet Place and Happy Death Day

Hey there, fans of all the horror movies. Let's talk about a couple I watched recently...yes, two movies for the price of one post. First, I decided to go see A Quiet Place in the theaters. My esteemed colleague Brian posted his thoughts on this movie, so go read it here, he is absolutely right. The silence in this movie is breathtaking. The crinkle of my M&M bag made me cringe. When someone sneezed in the theater, I almost cried out "WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE NOW THANKS!". But I didn't. I'm not a movie-ruiner. Seriously, I was too busy sitting on the edge o[...]
