Creepy Fun: The Haunting of Bly Manor

The Haunting of Bly Manor hit Netflix on October 9th, and, as you can guess, people are watching and whispering and posting with vague words and emotional phrases. As soon as I saw the trailer, I couldn't wait. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tykS7QfTWMQ And now, it's here! I've watched the first five episodes, and I like it! Creepy. Mysterious. Atmospheric. And the stories are unfolding at just the right pace. As I watched the first episode, I immediately connected this to the recent movie The Turning, which showed in theaters at the beginn[...]

Midnight Society Movie Night: Terrified (Aterrados)

Live-tweeting last month didn't go well, as my wifi decided to...well, die. And I still haven't been able to watch The Room. But that will be fixed next week when the wifi people are coming to make everything better. So for this month, let's watch Terrified! A Shudder original, Terrified, written by Juan Pedro Ramos and directed by Demian Rugna, is a 2018 Spanish horror film. Shudder blurb: On an ordinary suburban street in Buenos Aires, voices are heard from kitchen sinks. Bodies are levitating. Evil is here. It is up to a doctor, her colleague,[...]

Midnight Society Movie Night: Satan’s Slaves

Welcome to February and the announcement of which horror movie I will live-tweet this month. Join me for Satan's Slaves on...   I might have said that I received the best Christmas present: Shudder TV! I have scratched the surface of this horror-centered service and am loving every minute. Creepshow is a winner, for sure.     But there are so many movies! I decided to scroll through the list to find this month's creepy fun, and came across Satan's Slaves.     The title intrigued me. The tag line "She comes back for the last[...]

The Haunting Dialogue of Oxenfree

When you're fully immersed in a story, you hang on your favorite character's every word. Whatever they say will show how they're feeling, how connected they are - or want to be - to the person they're talking to. You'll know what they want, what they need, once they speak. OXENFREE follows Alex and her friends as they party and fight to survive on a deserted island. There's instant friction between characters. Snarky comments and awkward exchanges hint at the grief, regret and romantic tension between them. As Alex, you want to withdraw, but you're pushed to[...]

Midnight Society Movie Night: The Awakening

This month let's watch a little gem I found years ago called The Awakening. Time for... Where I tweet a whole lotta thoughts and reactions (and annoy the Twitter world) to a horror movie!     Released in the US in 2012, The Awakening, a British supernatural film, was directed by Nick Murphy and written by Nick Murphy and Stephen Volk. Florence Catheart (played by Rebecca Hall) doesn't believe in ghosts. She investigates hauntings in order to reveal that nothing paranormal exists. She heads to a boarding school to once again prove that ghosts are[...]

My Creepy Christmas Tree Experiment

Last year I feasted mine eyes on a few Christmas trees all trimmed out with creepy, a white tree with black ornaments and a tree decked out in skulls. I WANT TO DO THAT, but I don't want to copy one. So I share with you, my creepy Christmas (Creepmas?) tree experiment, my attempt to find my very own interpretation of a spooky tree. An odd conversation, as my husband discovers me staring at a seven foot slim artificial tree with an eerie light in my eyes. Husband: Do we need this tree? Me: I think so. I need a horror tree. I'm going to decorate it all creepy. An[...]

Let’s Talk Horror Movies: Winchester

Greetings, horror movie lovers. There's a new movie out. Just this month, Winchester arrived in theaters. Directed by Michael and Peter Spierig and written by the Spierigs and Tom Vaughn, the story is inspired by  the legend of Sarah Winchester and the Winchester House. Of course, I took myself to see it.   My fellow Midnighter The Davis Girl suggested I jot down my expectations or pre-viewing thoughts to compare with my thoughts post-viewing. I didn't have a lot of expectations, going into a book or movie I am ready to accept what the writers want t[...]
