Romance in Horror

When we talk about undead couples quite a few come to mind, but you know my mind often wanders to anything Joss Whedon or BtVS related. I’d be remiss if I didn’t talk about my favorite couples from Buffy.

First there was Buffy and Angel. Now this romance was doomed from the beginning–a vampire with a soul, who is cursed to become a demon again if he ever experiences true happiness meets the vampire slayer of his dreams. And one romantic night turns everything to hell. Literally.

While I loved Buffy with Angel, their romance was a little too sweet for me. One of my favorite scenes is between Buffy and Spike. When Buffy finally breaks down and attacks Spike in the warehouse, they bring down the walls with their lovemaking. Thank you, Joss for this deliciousness! Not only this, but we get to see a darker Buffy and a sweeter, more vulnerable Spike.

Before there was Buffy, both Angel and Spike fought over the very beautiful and disturbed, Druscilla. I mean, how can you resist the woman who talks to her dolls? Can you say…crazy?

But Angel loved to try and steal Dru away from Spike. In the end, I think Spike had the last laugh; what with being Buffy’s hero and all…

Now even though each of these couples had a short shelf life, they still are the antithesis of romance in horror. Enjoy your holiday–whether you spend it with a sweetie or your friends. Just remember that The Midnight Society loves you to death.
