Isn’t it magnificent? Man, I love Ghost.
Earlier this month, the band released the first video for their upcoming Prequelle album, which will be arriving on June 1st. If you don’t follow Ghost, you are missing out on the wonderful theatrics and lore Ghost builds around everything they do. I’ll do another post about Cardinal Copia and his backstory alter, but for now, let’s just bask in the awesomeness that is “Rats.”
Not only does this song have a distinct early 80s Ozzy Osboure feel, but it also feels like it could be off the soundtrack to so many 60s, 70s or 80s horror flicks. There were a handful of movies that popped into my head immediately upon seeing the video, and I wanted to share them. So, here are five old school horror flicks that I think “Rats” gives a nod to:
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Ben (1972)
The Crazies (1973)
Phantasm (1979)
Thriller (1983)
There are probably a dozen more Easter eggs in that video, and it may have conjured up some of your favorite horror movies when you watched “Rats” for the first time. If you see any I didn’t, throw them in the comments below.
And go get Ghost’s Prequelle on June 1st. If “Rats” is any indication, it will be “album of the year” material.

I have never heard of Ghosts, but you totally nailed it! I can even see this tune being used in contemporary horror, like The Purge!
