Frankenstein vs. The Mummy

Welcome to my new segment here at The Midnight Society! Each Tuesday you can find me here, posting my review on a specific horror film I've watched. I'll also be Tweeting my major thoughts while I watched the movie, so please join me on Tuesday, noon-2:00pm EST on Twitter. I'll be using #horrormovie and #MidnightSociety. The movie for the week will be based on what I'm in the mood for and will come from a variety of sources: the library, Redbox, Netflix, my own collection. If you have any suggestions, let me know!   Frankenstein vs. The Mummy 2015 R[...]

Reboot of the Horror Movie

Love horror? If you search the Internet, you'll find just how many horror films will be releasing over the next two years. Today, the focus is on horror reboots. While there are many being talked about, only a handful have made progress in writing, casting, and filming. I have seen every one of the originals. The Crow was dark and haunting. Frankenstein was amazing in black and white. Poltergeist scarred me for life. Carrie is the book that almost wasn't. The story behind Stephen King's path to success is as amazing as the movie version is. Gremlins--a stuffed[...]

The Trio

The Trio, also known as Andrew Wells, Jonathan Levinson, and Warren Mears teamed up to take over Sunnydale. The Trio--as they became known--came together to create shrink rays, invisibility ray, prototype jet packs, and chicks chicks chicks. Iksnay on the urdervey (I may have this spelled entirely wrong, but originally Jonathan and Andrew are against killing Buffy). None are Jedi masters, but they do have certain abilities, like summoning demons and flying monkeys, creating an anatomically correct Buffy robot, and augment reality. Alone they may have gone unnot[...]

Horror Author: Elizabeth Fields Visits Our Graveyard

Midnighters, I have a fantastic post for you today! I had the honor of interviewing actress and author, Elizabeth Fields, who is currently writing the screenplay for a few of her horror stories that are slated to begin filming soon—which is so cool, by the way! The best part???? She is a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer!!! Definitely the perfect match for us here at The Midnight Society. Enjoy:) 1.  How did you get started writing horror?   I’ve been writing since I learned how to hold a pen. I read a lot of Goosebumps as a kid. I tried my hand at writing[...]

My Favorite Buffy Scene

Depending on the day, my favorite Buffy episode tends to change. Well, I can't help it. I love them all! But whenever I'm asked I DO have a special scene the I love. Sunnydale is about to be overrun by The First and all it's demons from hell. There's evil priest named Caleb (played by the fantastic Nathan Fillion) who wants Buffy d-e-a-d, dead. Spike has a soul and finally figures out his role in the whole end of the world thing. The slayer wanna-be's stage a coup, leaving Buffy on her own and Faith suddenly in charge. Xander walks around like a pirate, because[...]

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Anya

As I write this blog post, I'm again watching a Buffy episode. This totally normal and not out of character for me, but it definitely got me thinking. In each Buffy episode, there is a new kind of evil in Sunnydale. Many of the main characters have at one time allowed their evil side to shine through: Spike, Angel, Willow, and Anya just to name a few. Nothing beats a good ol' Vengeance Demon!   GIF Credit: http://www.snarksquad.com/2013/12/buffy-the-vampire-slayer-s07-e05-sometimes-it-bes-that-way.html Formally known as Aud of Sweden, Anya becomes a Ven[...]

NA Horror- Let’s Get this Started!

I never set out to write a New Adult story. What I did set out to write was your good old fashion YA horror, one that I've submitted into many contests and to many agents. It was during one of these contests that I had my first "ah-ha" moment when an author came to me and said that my story really fit better in the New Adult category. The second eye opening moment came from an agent I had queried. Needless to say, she was sending me a rejection but noted that really my story was not meant to be labeled as young adult. New Adult Since I had these two experiences,[...]

This Year’s Girl

Even Buffy the Vampire Slayer celebrates the New Year in style--what with hunting and killing demons and all. Mix in a little of crazy Faith out of coma...and bang you have a terror-filled evening. Season 4 episode 15 opens with Buffy and Faith discussing the fresh smell of clean sheets. Because that's exactly what you'd do with Adam on the loose and Riley hidden away by the Initiative. Let me be frank with you. I'm not a complete fan of the Buffy episodes with Riley as her boyfriend. Yeah, I know that her love of Riley made her more human, but Buffy is suppose[...]

Horror Gifts for the Holidays

This year I bought my own Christmas gifts. Sound strange? Well, I happened to find the perfect Buffy figures at work and didn't want to miss out on owning them. So, I gave the boxes to my kids and asked them to wrap them up for me. There are so many toys out there that we horror fans can own, but this year is a special one. You don't have to look too deeply to find some fun figures to add to your list. Toys R Us Now here's just one example of a figure being sold in stores this year. You can find others like Willow, Buffy, Oz, The Crow, Pinhead, and Freddy Kruege[...]

Christmas Horror on the Big Screen

If you've tiptoed through The Midnight Society's cemetery, you know a few things about us. Watching horror flick that fit the season is one of them. We are all pretty versed in A Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton. This is a definite favorite here, but there are so many more horrors that surround this December holiday. GREMLINS One of my all-time favorite movies from my childhood is Gremlins. Who knew Christmas could be so crazy?? The Rules: 1. No food after midnight. 2. No water. 3. No bright light. As each of those rules are violated, chaos ensues. T[...]
