Street Teams for Horror Writers + Contest Alert!

Before I dive in, this is just a reminder that TONIGHT is our our monthly book chat on Twitter at 7 PM CST, using hashtag #MidnightBooks. Tonight we’re talking Amy Guiffrida’s The Bleeding Heart! See you there! I've been thinking a lot lately about street teams. Mainly because I have a book coming out soon. I feel like in the young adult realm, street teams are super common. What is a street team? A street team in the publishing world is a group of people who "hit the streets" to promote an author or a book. They may not ACTUALLY hit the streets, but they[...]

Goodreads Horror Book Lists

I'm a huge fan of Goodreads and there's one feature I love about it the most...Goodreads Listopia. What in the heck is Goodreads Listopia? Goodreads Listopia are lists of books that are created by users in order to lump similar books together. Users can also vote on books that they think should be added to the lists. You can do a general search of Listopia by using this link. My Favorite Horror Listopia Lists There's a multitude of MG and YA horror book lists on Goodreads so I thought that I would share a few of my favorites. Best YA Horror Books and Series Y[...]

Best Summer Ever with SYNC

For the past several years I've partaken in AudioFile's Sync summer program. What is it? AudioFile's Sync program basically connects you (the reader) with fantastic and free audiobooks over summer. Each week two ebooks are up on their site and you can download them for free. They always pair one YA novel with a classic novel. They do this to promote reading, literacy, and listening in young people across the nation. Straight from their website: SYNC gives away 2 FREE audiobook downloads every week each summer. In 2014, 26 titles were given away over 13 weeks. I[...]

Real Life True Horror

A real-life creepy thing happened to me today. It JUST happened so naturally my skin is still crawling. I should share it with you. I'm sure in time I will but man... I've been freaked out ALL DAY. It got me thinking about real-life creepy things. About true horror stories. About tales with twists and turns that sound absolutely like a nightmare...but they aren't. They are real life. One of the coolest things about horror movies and horror novels is that we can stands by and watch something utterly terrifying in the safety of our rooms, couches, or blan[...]

Announcing Our New Midnight Marauder!

The Midnight Marauder (formerly known as Midnight Matron) is a member of the Midnight Society team. He or she is someone that goes above and beyond to contribute to the Midnight Society, to our readers, and embraces the wonders of macabre like no other. Why did we change the name? According to the dictionary, a marauder is one who roves and raids in search of plunder. Suzy G. actually came up with the fantastic new name and I think it fits us perfectly. Each member certainly roves and explores the macabre and the depths of midnight. It's within those inky shado[...]

Man oh man oh man. I have just finished THE BEST BOOK. And now you all have to hear about it because you're welcome. If you have not heard of the middle grade book The House on Creep Street by The Blood Brothers, you are doing yourself a grave disservice. I can honestly say that The House on Creep Street is the best middle grade book I've ever read and it's one of the best I've read this year in any genre. There are several millions of reasons why I love this book but here are a few of the main reasons that I wanted to read this book in the first place. It in[...]

MTV’s Eye Candy

I was super disappointed to get the news this weekend. A new TV show that I've fallen in love with has been cancelled. This is basically my life. I'm cursed. The moment I like a show, it's cancelled. Have you guys heard of EYE CANDY? Have you heard of Eye Candy? Eye Candy is adapted from a book by R.L. Stine. Eye Candy (show) is about a hacker named Lindy who reluctantly joins the world of online dating. Once immersed in it, one of the men she's dating turns out to be a total creep and deadly stalker who targets her and anyone who she loves. Eye Candy stars V[...]

Urban Legends

The first urban legend I ever heard was the legend of the hook man. I was probably five or six and by that time, I was already addicted to scary stories and movies. My dad would turn the living room lights down and tell the story. My brother and I hung on every single word. Sure, little things changed here or there, but for the most part the key elements of the story remained the same. Have you heard of the Hook Man?   Let me summarize it for you. A young couple out on a date is parked at a lover's lane, kissing in a car. They've been interupted once or[...]
