Vampy Goodness – Who Was Your First?

I was nine years old when Buffy the Vampire Slayer first aired, and I hid in a guest room, blocked the door, and watched it with the television turned down so low I had to keep my ear a few inches from the set. There was that warning in the beginning of the show, about it being for viewers 14 and up, and damned if I was going to run the risk of missing out on this.

All these years later, and I still don’t go a month without watching an episode. Honestly, it’s pretty weird to go a week. I watch it over breakfast, the perfect start to my day. Buffy and I have been through everything together. If you want to start talking to me about that show, I suggest you take a bathroom break before getting me started. Never try and start a quote war with me, you will lose.

Oh wait, was I talking about something in this post? Oh, right, vampires.

I’d seen vampire movies before and had spent countless hours watching old horror movies with my dad, but Buffy’s what grabbed my heart. I’m a vampire fan for life.

A couple weeks ago I shared a few vampire book recommendations with you, and today I thought I’d include a random round-up of bloody good fun.

VAMP QUOTES

  • “I have never met a vampire personally, but I don’t know what might happen tomorrow.” Bela Lugosi
  • “When other little girls wanted to be ballet dancers, I kind of wanted to be a vampire.” Angelina Jolie
  • “It’s almost as if we each have a vampire inside us. Controlling that beast, that dark side, is what fascinates me.”
    Sheryl Lee
  • “The thing I love about vampires that I find so fascinating is that, unlike other sci-fi creations, they aren’t monsters from the get-go, they’re human beings first… and so what kind of human you are would dictate what kind of vampire you would be.”
    Rachelle Lefevre

Of course we have a Vampires pinterest board for your pinning pleasure.

Of course you can! I want those pop dolls so bad.

So, omg, Amber Benson. I met her at a ComicCon, too. AND THEN THIS ONE TIME, I was signing my books at GeekGirlCon, and she was signing her books right before me, and I took her seat (they were assigned). In the program, my name is right between Amber Benson and Jane Espenson. Maybe I’m weird for thinking that’s simply amazing, but it’s up there on my list of big life moments.

Love Buffy. It’s the only TV show besides Penny Dreadful that I have watched every episode. And I still watch it over and over. I love vampire books. I read two really good ones this year. The Coldest Girl and Coldtown, and The Quick, two tales that took the vampire back to its roots. The first vampire story that I read was Dracula, the first modern one was Salem’s Lot, and I love them both. But I wrote one, too, and maybe soon, I can rewrite it and get it online. Great post.
