Are You Excited for Rings?

The first trailer for the new Ring reboot landed this week, and you can check it out in the player below. https://youtu.be/WOH3ORdVmk8 I adored the first Ring movie. While not quite as good as Ringu, the Japanese movie it was based on, The Ring was still pretty damn terrifying and  superbly paced. My concern with this new trailer is that there's not a lot of mystery to it. We are basically getting the script outline over the course of the two-minute trailer. Still, I am absolutely going to see Rings. If rings can conjure up even one tenth of the dread the ori[...]

Death and Taxes

Hello, Kittens! I'm writing this as s a brand new 29 year old! Thanks to my fellow Midnight Society members for the blog post - you guys are the best. I have a little story -a ramble, if you will - about my birthday. Yesterday I woke up and went for birthday breakfast. I was feeling pretty good. I'm pregnant, so my skin is all glowy and my hair is awesome. I didn't have my usual mini-meltdown about growing older (those started when I turned 25). When I got home I put my son down for a nap and made myself a cup of tea. I sat there, reflecting on the past y[...]

For the Love of ZomBea’s Boutique: A Sneaky Little Preview (Part 1 of 2)

A while back, I happened to see this little beauty on Twitter and it made my graceless heart skip a beat. So I went to the original poster's twitter page and BAM! There was Bea. And I was hooked. As a lover of all things handmade, I had to check out this Etsy shop for myself.              And it was glorious.  It's called ZomBea's Boutique and it is run by Bea, from a magical place called Wells! Instantly obsessed, and in despearate need to know more about Bea, and Bea's Etsy shop, and Bea's mad sk[...]

Birthday Time. X-Files Style.

Today, we celebrate our fearless, fantastical, creeptastical leader. IT'S JOLENE'S BIRTHDAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! So we are prepared to... Well, maybe not DIE...unless some strange thing happens on this glorious day of death flavored cake and fear infused ice cream...like... Creepy, possessed dolls...     Odd lights in the sky...     Or our bodies being taken over by goo...   Have no fear, we will call the best to help make sure your birthday is not ruined by the weird, scary, or other-worldly.   When this guy shows[...]

The Stranger Things Soundtrack is Out! Get it now!

It’s no secret that I love Stranger Things. In fact, I’m so bold as to say that I think it’s one of the best shows I’ve seen in my life. Yep. Seriously.   One of the things I love most about this show is the thing that my writing partner Brian LeTendre and I talk about a lot…music. Soundtrack is such a huge part of any successful horror movie or show. I’m a huge fan of John Carpenter for this reason. You know, the legendary director and composer behind some of the best horror soundtracks ever? (My favorite is the synth driven Halloween, Hallow[...]

Celebrate Stuart Gordon’s Birthday With These Lovecraft-Inspired Classics

Stuart Gordon is one of my top three horror directors of all time (John Carpenter and Sam Raimi being the other two). His birthday was August 11th, and to celebrate I'm going to recommend three of my favorite H.P. Lovecraft adaptations that he directed. *Note: These trailers contain some foul language, plenty of blood, and one (Dagon) features brief nudity. Re-Animator (1985) https://youtu.be/6NOcRIHiRtc Based on the H.P. Lovecraft story Herbert West--Reanimator, Jeffrey Combs plays Dr. Herbert West, a man who has created a serum that reanimates the dead. As y[...]

Interview: Jolene Haley and Brian LeTendre

Hello, Darlings!!   I am SO thrilled to have our very own Horror Twins, Brian LeTendre and Jolene Haley, on the blog today! They graciously let me feast on their brains about their books, both past and upcoming. So I'll stop boring you and just hop right in!   How did you two start writing together in the first place? Brian: I was lucky enough to participate in a few of the Pen & Muse writing showcases (Dark Carnival and Haunt), and I was a big fan of Jolene's because she's such a positive force in the writing community. I asked her to be a gu[...]

Halloween is Coming!

HALLOWEEN IS COMING!!! Yes, you read that correctly. And yes, I know that Halloween is over 2 months away but there's something special happening this year. The remake of Rocky Horror Picture Show will preview on FOX. I'm old enough to have experienced the original film in the theater. I know, I don't look a day over...Enough of that. I remember standing in line with costumed fans and watching them act out the film, bringing it all to life. I am so excited that a new generation will get to enjoy Rocky Horror Picture Show, whether it's new or the original film (I[...]
